Middle School Baseball Caps Best Season Ever with
Runner-up Finish in Conference Championship
Kenny Perez,
Coach
T
he Middle School baseball team finished off the strongest season in its history this spring compiling a
venerable 11-4-1 record. The season included wins over traditional powerhouses Gulliver Academy and
Westminster Christian, and three wins each against Palmer Trinity and Miami Country Day.
Keying the strong season was the leadership of the eighth-grade class, starters
Jack Archer ’18
(pitcher,
first base),
Ryan Armas ’18
(outfield),
Matthew Jackson ’18
(catcher),
Chase Moralejo ’18
(outfield) and
Jake Weintraub ’18
(pitcher, first base). The remaining starters were seventh-graders:
Alex Boehm ’19
,
Mike
Hannan ’19
, and
Mike McBrayer ’19
(infielders), and
Mike Segel ’19
(outfielder).
The fantastic season culminated in a great run by the Raiders in the South Florida Middle School Conference
Championship Tournament. Weintraub and Archer pitched RE into the conference finals with 12-2 and
11-1 wins against Palmer Trinity and Miami Country Day, respectively. The Raiders then faced undefeated
powerhouse Florida Christian in the championship game. Thanks to a dominating pitching performance and
timely hitting by Jack Archer, the Raiders led for a while and then kept it close the entire way, before losing
4-3. Archer was recognized for his performance by being named to the All-Tournament team. Alex Boehm also
received All-Tournament honors.
The future looks bright for Ransom Everglades baseball with five Class of 2018 starters headed to the varsity
team next year, and Middle School baseball returning a strong group of starters, as well as a number of other
underclassmen who will be challenging for playing time.
