R
ansom Everglades hosted the 7th annual Smoothie King Invitational on April 11 & 12. Sixteen teams
competed in pool play then divisional bracket to determine their overall finish. Four divisions of gold,
silver, bronze, and copper saw some of the top teams in the state compete for the coveted title. The
tournaments success continues to attract teams from out of the county that included Bishop Moore, Apopoka,
Berkeley Prep, Timber Creek, Cardinal Gibbons, Archbishop McCarthy, Boca Raton, and Chaminade Madonna.
Add to that mix the perennial powerhouse teams from Miami-Dade County that included Southwest, Sunset,
Ransom Everglades, Coral Reef, and Alonso Mourning.
Ransom Everglades would emerge as the silver division champions by defeating Apopka two sets to none.
Seniors
Victor Campano ’14
and
Sean Bonner ’14
were named to the All-Tournament team. This was Sean
Bonner’s second recognition in as many weekends as he was also named All-Tournament at the Berkeley Prep
Challenge April 4 and 5. Campano and Bonner lead their team respectively in kills totaling 28 apiece. Sean
added 13 blocks. Anchoring the defense was
Blake Adler ’14
, who lead the team with 24 digs and
Adam
Chiavacci ’14
chipped in 11. Senior setter
Matt Lirman ’14
recorded 110 assists and 4 service aces over
the two day tournament. Senior middle blockers,
Nick Stern ’14
and
Scott Parker ’14
totaled 34 kills and
8 blocks.
