Boris is also part of the eLab Startup Accelerator at Cornell. David Pulido, see Peter Gardner ’85 Matt Zide was visited in the fall by RE Performing Arts Department Chair Cecilia Gonzalez at the University of Michigan, where RE alumni are thriving in the performing arts. Cecilia writes, “As part of the University of Michigan’s MUSKET production, RE alumni, Matt Zide and Natasha Rodriguez ’23, both students of the School of Music, Theatre and Dance, directed and choreographed Matilda the Musical.” Being selected to direct/ choreograph these productions is competitive and comes with significant campus support and the opportunity to manage a budget. 2020 Members of the RE Class of 2020 at their 5-year milestone reunion during the Young Alumni Reception on Thanksgiving week. Perry Samimy writes, “After graduating from RE in 2020, I completed my bachelor’s at Caltech, graduating in 2024 with a double major in mechanical engineering and business, then subsequently chose to pursue a PhD in engineering physics at UC San Diego, where I am now in my second year. My research is in the field of inertial confinement fusion (ICF) for applications to renewable energy generation and, during the summer of 2025, I completed an internship at Lawrence Livermore National Lab (LLNL), the global leader in ICF technology, fully funded by a fellowship award from the Livermore Lab Foundation. My internship project was to analyze data collected during recent ICF experiments conducted at the OMEGA laser facility and I will also be continuing to work with LLNL for the remainder of my doctorate studies developing novel diagnostic tools for harsh radiation environments, such as those that would be found in future ICF power plants. Driven by several important breakthroughs in recent years and a wave of new investment, both public and private, it’s an exciting time for fusion energy! I am very grateful to be part of the movement, and it is thanks in large part to the amazing education I received at RE that I’ve been able to thrive in the world of cutting-edge science.
