RE LOG Spring '25

SPRING 2025 Ransom Everglades LOG 67 David M. Wilson ’45 of Brackney, Pa., died peacefully on November 27, 2024. He attended Ransom in both Florida and New York in the 1940s and his uncle, Ken Wilson, was headmaster from 1931 to 1942. David wrote his own obituary, saying, “Not being a fan of begat obituaries, I wish to use this opportunity to thank everyone I ever met, read, listened to, or learned from that allowed me to live a long and fascinating life. I particularly want to thank people of other cultures who gave me the opportunity to learn about their values and societies. My overseas experiences made me appreciate the good fortune of being born in the United States into a supportive family. Two special marriages, four daughters (comic relief), and innumerable close relatives provided love and laughter that sustained me throughout my life. All in all, life has been an intriguing and challenging journey for which I am forever grateful.” His daughter Penny wrote that he loved his time at Ransom School and in recent years enjoyed hearing how well the school was doing. Mary A. Babcock ’61 passed away on October 21, 2024. She lived life to the fullest and had both an adventurous spirit and an eternally sunny disposition. She was always there with a helping hand to those in need and never knew a stranger. Mary served on many charitable and professional boards and was a pilot and world-class sailor, yet she could paper a wall or reupholster a chair just for fun. Mary is survived by her daughter, Areca Whatmore; her son, Clifton Whatmore; her sisters, Charlotte Leatherman, Susan Coffey and Patricia Macy; her brother, Vose Babcock; and their families. Meigs Matheson ’68 A 55-year resident of the San Francisco Bay area, Meigs passed away on December 10, 2024, of cardiac arrest. After attending Everglades School for Girls, she graduated from Lake Forest (Ill.) College with a degree in art history. She enjoyed giving field trips to coastal tidal pools while working on a master’s degree in marine biology at California State University, East Bay. Her real pleasures in life were trips in her van throughout the West with her many golden retrievers. Meigs was one of five Matheson girls who loved and appreciated her days at the Everglades School for Girls. Gary S. McKart ’72 passed away at his home in Ft. Myers with his son, Patrick, by his side and in the care of hospice, after a long illness with congestive heart failure. He was born in Miami, the son of the late Mary and Jack McKart, and brother of Janice McKart. Gary was a devoted father to his son Patrick S. McKart. Patrick has many wonderful memories with his loving dad. Michael D. Moss ’67 passed away on August 25, 2024
