Here’s a glimpse of the biggest news out of Raider Nation so far in 2024-25. National championship for boys’ cross country RE’s sixth-grade cross country team won the 2024 Middle School Cross Country Nationals in the 3,000 meters in Louisville, Ky., on Nov. 9. Russ LeFrak ’31, Tiago Da Silva ’31, Sebastian Dangond ’31, Samuel Alexander ’31 and Juan Andres Dasburg ’31 crossed the finish line with an average time of 11 minutes and 48 seconds. LeFrak finished 14th overall in 11:37.6; all of the others earned top-28 placements in a field of 80 runners from around the nation under coach Ben Yeo. Unprecedented success for RE girls’ soccer With the district title on the line, Johanna James ’26 broke a scoreless tie in overtime and Stella Colombo ’26 added another goal to give the Raiders a thrilling 2-0 victory over True North Classical Academy at Robert E. Walker Field to claim the Class 2A District 15 championship to extend a magical playoff run. The district thriller on Jan. 31 was followed by three victories in the regional tournament, sending the Raiders to the state championship meet for the first time in team history. Their season came to a close in the state semifinal, where they lost a heartbreaker, 3-1, to the Episcopal School of Jacksonville. Anna Lavernia ’25, Casey Manno ’25, Lindsay Ng ’25, Didi Carvalho ’25 and Addison Pollock ’25 provided leadership as the Raiders defeated Carrollton, St. Andrew’s and Palmer Trinity in the regional playoffs. Colombo and James led the team in scoring with major contributions from Olivia Geller ’26 and Charlie Jaffee ’28. Avery Almazan ’26 and Lavernia anchored the Raiders’ defense. Sports
