FALL 2025 Ransom Everglades LOG 79 Primitivo “Primo” Sanchez (November 27, 1934 - July 24, 2025), a former RE employee, is survived by his wife, Aida, of 65 years; his daughters, Sandra and Estella; his grandchildren Nicholaus and Nathaniel; his greatgrandchild, Damian; and his son-in-law, Rafael. He was the third of 13 children born to parents Agustin and Isabel Sanchez. He is also survived by three brothers, Luis, Tony and Ira, and five sisters, Mina, Jega, Cede, Teli and Sarita. On behalf of his family, they want you to know that they greatly appreciate your support during this difficult time and for coming to pay tribute to a man that they fondly describe as the pillar of his family. They want you to know that Primitivo was an exceptional and loving husband, father, grandfather, son and friend. He touched and left a lasting impression on everyone he knew and encountered. He was a very happy, boisterous man who made us laugh with his wit, who was there when you needed him without question. He was a hard worker and provider for his family. He loved his family deeply, and the love, respect and devotion he had for his wife, Aida, was immeasurable. They navigated their lives together hand in hand — he was the sailboat, and she was his sails. His daughters were his anchor and his compass. His family will miss him deeply, but know that he is now in a better place. Though it may be some time before they see him again, he will continue to be in our hearts and in the lasting memories he has left us all. “We love you, Daddy, Papa, Pop.” Brien David Coleman ’71 (August 1953 - July 24, 2025) of Oaxaca, Mexico, died unexpectedly of complications from sepsis just shy of his 73rd birthday. Brien moved to Oaxaca in 2022, having lived previously in rural Connecticut. He was very happy in Oaxaca among friends and colleagues, and he will be greatly missed by his community of friends there, along with those from his previous homes in Connecticut, Toronto, New York City and Miami. Born in Miami on August 25, 1953, Brien was the middle of three children of David C. Coleman Jr. and Margot O’Brien Coleman. He loved the ocean and embraced the beauty and energy growing up in the unspoiled seaside environment of South Florida. Brien moved to the Lower East Side of New York City in the iconic 1970s. For several decades, he thrived on the colorful pace of the city, where he connected with creative artists and friends. Brien had a fierce curiosity; he loved to travel, and he was often planning his next adventure. Brien had a talent, beginning at an early age, for creating intricate and evocative collages on every scale. His bedroom was a virtual sea of cut-out images, floating on a variety of surfaces. Brien’s keen observations, connections and sense of humor were woven into his vast body of work. Over the years, he was part of many solo and group exhibitions in New York, Toronto, Woodbury, Conn., and more recently, in Oaxaca. Brien put a premium on beauty; he was an avid gardener, creating rock gardens and floral landscape designs wherever he lived. Brien is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Mark Hicks of Miami, as well as his nephews, Conner and Taylor Hicks, and niece Lindsey. He also leaves his sister, Julie, and brother-in-law, Peter Mansfield, of Falmouth, Mass., as well as nieces Emily and Olivia. And of course, his beloved cat, Micco. Kathryn Carlin Kipnis ’02 November 7, 1983 - May 30, 2025 “Portrait of Brien Coleman 1980” by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders ’70 founded the Sager Fund at Swarthmore College, an LGBTQ+ campus resource which has been a catalyst for inclusive programming that serves and represents the needs of queer communities on campus. Richard also left a gift to RE as part of his estate to support the school’s greatest needs. Richard was loved by so many friends; his boyfriend, Louie; his sister, Wendy Sager Pomerantz, and his nephews, Steve Pomerantz and Jason Pomerantz.
