70 Ransom Everglades LOG FALL 2025 Class Notes 1998 Karim Aryeh, see Marcel Laniado ’02 Charlie Rua continues to grow his real estate brokerage, Rua Realty, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year while making a lasting community impact. He recently facilitated a key transaction between the City of Coral Gables and a private seller, securing new green space for community parks. Charlie and his family reside in Coral Gables, where his daughter, Amaia, is a rising junior at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy, and his son, Nicolas, is a rising eighth grader in the international studies program at G.W. Carver Middle School. His wife, Cristina, excels as a marketing director at UHealth’s Desai Sethi Urology Institute. The Ruas are active members of the Coral Reef Yacht Club, where Charlie serves as Marine Facilities Chairperson, and enjoy supporting their children’s sports, including soccer, cross country and track and field. As a Ransom Everglades’ Class of 1998 representative, Charlie values the alumni community and treasures family gatherings with fellow alumni. John Stieglitz was featured in a recent GQ article, “The Ethical Assassin: One Man’s Quest for the Perfect Way to Kill a Fish,” for his innovative research on sustainable fishing practices. As a research associate professor and Director of Sustainable Seafood Research and Development at the University of Miami, John led a study comparing traditional methods of killing fish to the Japanese ike jime technique. His findings suggest ike jime can extend the shelf life of yellowtail snapper by up to a week, offering significant economic and environmental benefits for the fishing and restaurant industries.
