RE Log - Spring 2024

From the Archives 68 Ransom Everglades LOG SPRING 2024 The RE Archives play an essential role in documenting the school’s institutional memory. The preserved papers and artifacts provide evidence of past activities, achievements, decisions, goals, relationships and more, as well as a window into local and world events. The collective and individual pieces of information also establish an understanding of the school’s journey from its beginnings in 1893 through today, which in turn sets up a framework for the future. Work in the RE archives is a constant journey of connections and reconnections. Each piece of information received is placed in the relevant era thereby connecting it to the school’s history and providing a deeper insight. Research questions received by the archivist require delving into the collection to reconnect with people and events of the past. The year 2024 has been an extraordinary year of reconnections. The Ransom School and the Everglades School for Girls merged in 1974, with 1975-76 being the first year of co-education. Meanwhile, the RE Alumni Association celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, too. Fall 2024 will see the 75th anniversary of the creation of the Ransom School, while at the same time we continue to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the first year of the Adirondack- Florida School, which opened in September 1903. And for football fans, 2024 is the 50th anniversary of the start of the Battle for the Oar — Go Raiders! Enjoy the historical photos in this article as we remember and REconnect with milestones in RE’s history.
