66 Ransom Everglades LOG SPRING 2024 In Loving Memory Kathy Lindgren Hall ’74 Kathy Lindgren Hall passed away on November 26, 2023, following a long illness. She will be missed. Virginia Smith Mead Former Trustee Virginia Smith Mead, 92, of Miami, passed away peacefully at home Dec. 2, 2023. Virginia, who was known by her friends as Ginger and by her family as Gigi, was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. She attended Duke University where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. While at Duke she met her future husband, Dick Mead. After graduating, Ginger moved to Philadelphia and taught elementary school before she and Dick reconnected. He enticed her to marry him and move to his Miami home. Ginger and Dick lived according to a conviction with which they had been raised, that they should first and foremost contribute to the wellbeing of the community in which they lived. Throughout her marriage, both she and Dick were committed to serving the Miami community through involvement in several organizations. Ginger’s devotion to service culminated in being a founding member of the Tiffany Circle of the American Red Cross. For years Ginger was a member of the Junior League of Miami, where she served on the board and edited the organization’s Tropical Topics magazine. Ginger served on the boards of Mental Health of Dade County, Partners in Crime-Watch, Inc., Travelers Aid, and Easterseals Gilded Lilies. She also served on the board of directors for the Everglades School for Girls and was active in local, state and national levels of the National Federation of Republican Women. Ginger was generous and fun-loving. Her sense of adventure and passion for travel took her far and wide, including many spectacular hot-air balloon tours. She appreciated and enjoyed all the arts and she loved the mountains of North Carolina. Ginger was exceptionally thoughtful and loved to entertain family and friends. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren. Ginger is survived by her daughter Cathy Hamill (Kent), her son, Budge, and his children, Sophia, Ryan and Katie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Sally Hogg White ’64 Sally Hogg White passed on June 8 at the age of 77 from complications from advanced rheumatoid arthritis. She was diagnosed with RA when she was 44. Her disease progressed rapidly, and she suffered a cascade of incapacitating physical deformities as a result. Despite decades of living with severe physical handicaps, she maintained her grace, positive attitude and sense of humor. The prison of her body was no match for her spirit, which was apparent even to people she had only met once. Her love of animals, most especially horses and dogs, was a constant in her life. And despite years of living in Madrid and the United States, she remained, at heart, an anglophile. She is survived by her son, Philip; daughters, Amy and Katharine; and grandchildren, Jack, Asher, Galen and Naomi. Emily Isberg Reardon ’69 Emily Isberg Reardon passed away peacefully on October 19 in Belmont, Mass., after a long illness, surrounded by her loving husband, Marc; three children and their spouses; and four grandchildren. Born April 5, 1951, Emily grew up in Miami Beach and loved books and music from a young age. Emily graduated from Everglades School for Girls in 1969 and Harvard-Radcliffe College in 1973. The transition from bright Miami to Massachusetts was jarring at first, but Emily quickly grew to love the culture of learning she found at Radcliffe and adopted the area as her home. While at Radcliffe, Emily made lifelong friends and met Marc Reardon, the enduring love of her life. After graduating from Radcliffe, Emily earned a degree in journalism from the Columbia Journalism School. She went on to write for the The Washington Post , edit several books and newspapers, and publish a book on sports medicine for the Novabooks series. Emily’s passion for writing shone; she wrote beautifully throughout her life. Emily married Marc in 1981 and celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary last year. They were lifelong partners, together in adventures of worldwide travel, careers and raising their children. Emily was a devoted mother to Matthew, Elizabeth and Rachel. Emily fought an aggressive cancer for four years with endurance and grace. She retained the quiet strength and determination that her family had seen on backcountry expeditions and the sense of humor that had filled their home with laughter throughout. Emily is survived by her husband, Marc Reardon; her sister, Roberta Isberg, and her husband, Seth Alper; her cousin Ralph Isberg and his wife, Carol Kumamoto; her son, Matthew Reardon, and his wife, Genevieve Aguilar, and their children, Theodore and Luke; her daughter Elizabeth Reardon and her husband, Benjamin Starobin, and their daughter, Hannah; her daughter Rachel Reardon and her husband, Zaks Lubin, and their son, Oscar; and many nieces and nephews.
