RE Log - Spring 2024

50 Ransom Everglades LOG SPRING 2024 Class Notes Mark Selawry says, “I am semi-retired and living on a catamaran. When I was the president of the RE Sailing Club, I never thought I’d move onto a sailboat as a liveaboard cruiser. That’s exactly what I’ve done since December 2020 together with my sweetheart Kathryn and pup Lapa. [See photo above.] We started in California, cruised Pacific Mexico and the Sea of Cortez, and are making our way down to Panama to cross the Panama Canal and start cruising the Caribbean. Who knows, we might make it to Biscayne Bay, in which case any fellow sailors (and landlubbers) would be welcome aboard.” 1984 REUNION APRIL 2024 Please consider becoming a class ambassador. Kenny Broad , environmental anthropologist and professor at the University of Miami, was featured in the December “Pictures of the Year” issue of National Geographic Magazine , exploring the Frasassi cave system in Italy looking for novel forms of microbial life. Kenny was National Geographic’s Explorer of the Year in 2011. 1985 Class Ambassador: Stacey Deutsch Shoer (shoerstacey@gmail.com ) Kenny Broad, center @NatGeo, photo by Carsten Peter L-R: Randy Kassewitz, Lee Geller ’89, Becky Haggard McCarron ’93, Jimmy Sadler ’81, Nicole Sayfie Porcelli ’89, Monkey van de Kreeke ’88 1986 Class Ambassadors: Pam Pennell Kelly (pamela@kellyart.com ), Lissette Suarez Stancioff (lissettestancioff@gmail.com ) David Clark , see 1988 Pam Pennell Kelly writes, “REunion in Gainesville, Fla.: There is nothing like being with old friends and RE water polo players. So fortunate to know all these kind, thoughtful souls. RE builds character and friendships that last a lifetime.” Jason Kurtz writes, “After three years of a sabbatical and enjoying the empty nester life, I have gone back to the world of full-time employment. I joined a Finnish company called Basware – we provide accounts payable and invoice automation software to multinational enterprises around the world. I’m having a blast and looking forward to building an amazing software company.” Jeff Williamson connected with Caroline Lewis, former RE Upper School Director, science teacher and parent (2009 and ’10), at a GenCLEO Youth Advocacy Movement event. Caroline founded The CLEO Institute in 2010 to promote climate literacy, climate justice and support for bold action.
