RE Log - Spring 2024

SPRING 2024 Ransom Everglades LOG 3 One of my favorite pieces is a photographic feature on our first three-generation legacy families on page 11. We are proud to feature six families with a grandparent, parent and child who attended (or currently attends) Ransom Everglades. We are especially grateful to have captured a beautiful portrait of the Stieglitz RE family just weeks before the passing of Blackie Stieglitz ’54 . We offer our condolences to his wife, Mimi Stieglitz ’63 , children B.J. Stieglitz ’96 and John Stieglitz ’98 , and grandchildren, including Robbie ’28 . Blackie was a special alumnus and a man loved by many in the Miami community. Please find columns and stories about what is happening on campus to help our students prepare for the world outside our gates. Roger Caron, the Dean of the 12th Grade, writes about our new Life After RE Senior Seminar Series, programming designed to help reinforce our community bonds now and prepare our students for the transition to college. Carla Hill, an admissions officer who co-advises our Student Diversity Council, writes about the experience she shared with six students and five faculty at the parallel Student Diversity Leadership Conference and People of Color Conference. (Pages 30- 31.) You can learn more about how we commemorated International Holocaust Remembrance Day on page 32. We brought in speakers from 3GMiami – including Rachel Greer Narvaez ’99 – to share stories of the Holocaust and help our students better understand the dangers of antisemitism. You will enjoy the delightful Q and A with faculty emerita Kenia Rebozo Mestre, the “From the Archives” reflection skillfully prepared by archivist Katrina Patchett, an in-depth look at our latest class of Dan Leslie Bowden Fellows in the Humanities, and a fun feature on our award-winning academic teams. Professional community members Monique Regis and Joe Mauro share their reasons for supporting RE in the “Why I Give” feature, and many alumni shared updates in Class Notes. This magazine provides insight into the people and experiences that make RE so special. We hope you enjoy the stories, and we also hope you are inspired to deepen your connection to Ransom Everglades. Rachel Rodriguez Head of School For many alumni, some of the best moments at Ransom Everglades are those that happen after they graduate. It is the hallmark of a great community: the longer you are connected, the stronger the bonds grow.” “
