SPRING 2024 Ransom Everglades LOG 13 The Cassel Family James Cassel 1973 Yearbook Seth Cassel, 1998 Yearbook Violet Cassel ’29 “When I was a student at Ransom, it was really cool to be smart.” Jim Cassel ’73 Seth Cassel ’98 (Amanda Perwin ’98) Violet Cassel ’29 Jim: It’s an amazing school and an amazing experience. We sent four kids here, and now a granddaughter, and we hope all of our grandchildren will attend. It’s the best school certainly in the Southeast. It’s great for everybody. When I was a student at Ransom, it was really cool to be smart. It’s not like at other schools where the smart kids have issues. It’s the diversity not only of the people, but also the programs. There is something for everybody at Ransom Everglades. I liked hanging down by the water, where the sailboats were. I did sail but I only learned how to get out – I couldn’t get back to the dock. Seth: My favorite part about campus was how you would come out of the breezeway and see straight to the water. I thought that was amazing. No matter how crazy the day was, when you saw the water, it was this serene, therapeutic moment. My favorite memory was winning the state championships junior year in water polo. We were heavy underdogs against Lake Brantley. The guys on their team looked like they were 24 years old. We looked like we were 12. We were like pip squeaks, and we won in overtime. Seth is married to Amanda Perwin ’98. Violet: I like the quad and the Dell at the middle school, and my favorite memories are spirit week and the house competitions. “My favorite memory was winning the state championships junior year in water polo....The guys on their team looked like they were 24 years old.
