RE Log Spring 2023
SPRING 2023 Ransom Everglades LOG 3 The irreplaceable community and strong connections among students on campus and the school’s history continue. There is joy in the new middle school house system, which was created two years ago in the hope of fostering camaraderie, school spirit and a link to RE’s 120 years of history. The houses, and the story behind them, are nothing short of magical, to steal a description from Meg Daly. Don’t miss the tale of our new “Fun Houses,” told delightfully by faculty member J.P. Arrastía, on page 6. We have had a particularly joyful year of gathering on campus. It’s been a season of superlatives; we have never had more campus-wide cultural events and festivals: see news stories on our celebrations of Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, the Lunar New Year and Diwali (pages 30-31). We also enjoyed our first Mid-Autumn Festival and held assemblies to recognize International Holocaust Remembrance Day, LGBT History Month, International Women’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Veterans Day and other events. Spearheaded by parents and faculty, these events have brought our students, faculty, parents, alumni and even grandparents closer – often with vivid colors, amazing food and terrific music, and arts and dance performances. The great strength of our community can be found even off campus; it’s been a pleasure to hold alumni events in North Carolina, Washington, D.C., and New York and appreciate the outstanding turnout. We were thrilled to see young alumni visit our upper school – many on college break – in early January, and alumni of all ages came back for a truly spectacular homecoming last fall. And I know our alumni will appreciate reading about the joyous return of St. Alban’s Day to both campuses after a two-year hiatus forced by the pandemic (see page 32-33). Our students worked diligently to ensure that school children from Coconut Grove and the City of Miami had a very merry time under their care. I hope this issue captures some of the vibrancy of days spent on RE’s campuses. I am reminded of how grateful I am for my time at Ransom Everglades as a teacher, parent, middle school head and now Interim Head of School. It has been my privilege to be a part of this community. Rachel Rodriguez Interim Head of School I am reminded of how grateful I am for my time at Ransom Everglades as a teacher, parent, middle school head and now Interim Head of School. It has been my privilige to be a part of this community.” “
