RE Log - Fall 2022

FALL 2022 Ransom Everglades LOG 93 From the RE Archives Students at the Everglades School for Girls were divided into two teams, the Egrets and the Ibis, and they stayed with the same one from their first day of classes until graduation. Each year the teams competed in areas ranging from academics and athletics to school service and charity work. Marie Swenson, who with her husband, Edward F. Swenson, Jr., founded the school, believed the teams and activities promoted a healthy competition that encouraged the students to set goals and then push to achieve them. The overall intent was to inspire students to develop into educated and well-rounded people. Everglades School for Girls alumnae often still proudly identify as an Egret or Ibis. In the 2021-22 school year, the Everglades Campus developed a “house” system based on the Egrets and Ibis idea, and this year the Ransom Campus has done the same. Through the Everglades School for Girls alumnae, current students, and future Ransom Everglades School alums, the Everglades School for Girls’ tradition of teamwork and team spirit will continue.
