88 Ransom Everglades LOG FALL 2022 In Loving Memory A Visionary Leader Frank Hogan left a legacy of school improvements Francis Joseph “Frank” Hogan III , who served as Head of School at Ransom Everglades from 1985 to 1992, passed away June 27, 2022. He was 85. Frank was known for his visionary leadership and deep humility. He direct- ed the largest capital campaign in school history at the time, an $8.7 million effort that brought major improvements to both campuses and “put the school on the map,” according to former RE board chair Eric Buermann ’69 in Honor and Excellence: A Century of Ransom Everglades School . Under Frank’s direction, the Henry H. Anderson, Jr. ‘38 Gymnasium and the Dan Leslie Bowden Library at the upper school and the Hogan Building at the middle school came to fruition – along with many other improvements. He also embraced the start of the Summerbridge program for underserved youth at Ransom Everglades that grew into Breakthrough Miami. “Frank was an amiable man of vision,” senior RE faculty member Joe Mauro said. “He was exactly what a head of school should be, someone who was both capable of creating a visionary strategic plan and capable of bringing it to fruition successfully. I … was greatly impressed with his wit, intelligence and ability to get things accomplished.” Added senior faculty member Karen Thompson: “I loved working for Frank Hogan. He was pro faculty, a good leader and saw that both campuses needed to modernize and improve facilities. He also believed that the administration should support and facilitate programs, allowing the school, faculty and students to shine and excel.” Ransom Everglades shared its deep- est sympathies with Frank’s family. He is survived by six children including son Tom Hogan, who worked at RE for 10 years in many roles: Director of Upper School Admission, Director of Student Activities, history teacher and coach.
