RE Log - Fall 2022

FALL 2022 Ransom Everglades LOG 63 1966 Class Agent: Ann Coleman Hicks (annchicks@aol.com ) Peggy Heffernan Johnson ’66 (de- ceased), see Judy Golden Powers ’62 Francine Smith Rizzotto writes, “After 30 years in southern Montana just north of Yellowstone, operating a full-service fly fishing lodge on 40 acres, and four years in Miami caring for my parents, Chip and I settled in the tiny community of Waterwood (128 homes) in Yalaha, Fla., in 2015. Our Montana life was a dream come true, but adjusting to living in a community with neighbors has been an unexpected pleasure. We’ve made many new friends during our years here and though, at 85 and 74, we’ve slowed down considerably, we continue to be active in our neighborhood and com- munity. I’ve been a full-time volunteer at the Leesburg Food Bank for the past three years and have found a real sense of fulfillment there, especially with the growing numbers of those in need. Chip continues to fish and pursue his wildlife photography, his two passions. Covid-19 has curtailed our travels these past few years, but we hope to get back out into the world soon. We celebrated our 50th anniversary last year and still have many places yet to discover together.” Francine and Chip are pictured below. 1967 Class Agent: Elizabeth Cowen (ejcown@gmail.com) 1968 Please consider becoming a class agent. Laurinda Spear’s granddaughter, Emilia Adams ’29 , is now part of a third-generation legacy family at RE. Laurinda and her daughter Marisa Fort ’98 are enjoying their new respective roles as RE grandparent and RE parent as Emilia settles into her sixth grade year. 1969 Class Agent: Lili Krech Neale ( liliandy@bellsouth.net) Betsy Suero Skipp , see R1971 Sara Grinnell Smith writes, “We are still living in Lexington, Ky., most of the time, but have found ourselves drawn to our cottage on Daufuskie Island, S.C., for several months during the winter. The atmosphere of this small, bridge- less island feels more like a rural small town, set in a coastal forest with a beach and ocean. We are fortunate to have all children and grandchildren in Lexington, with two of the three families living two blocks away. Staying healthy, busy, upright and moving.” 1970 Class Agents: Gail Beckham ( gailbeckham@gmail.com ), Melinda Cowen (melinda@cowendesign.com) , Cree McDougal Scudder ( creescudder@gmail.com) Sonia Lorié Alexander writes, “Married to David and having our 45th anniversary this year. Our son, Brad, is married to Molly with two adorable daughters, Rose and Fiona. We lived in Seattle but moved to Santa Barbara for the weather and natural beauty. Love to paint and have lots of adventures. Miss you all!” Gail Beckham , see Everglades Class of ’72 Cree McDougal Scudder writes, “I ended up in Charlotte, Vt., in July with my husband, Ned. To our surprise our New Jersey friends and Amanda Hamilton Myers and her son, Chris, were visiting in Vermont, too! What a treat!!! We all had a terrific time on Lake Champlain. Always wonderful catching up and meeting the younger generation, plus sharing our Everglades friends, as well as our New Jersey friends! Surprises are wonderful!” Deborah L. Wright writes, “Finally getting ready to retire this spring as I turn 70! Looking forward to becoming a pilgrim traveler once again as my globe- trotting bucket list has only grown since the start of covid-19. Retirement will also open up time for me to return to writing my Labyrinth Tales (located in any num- ber of places where a labyrinth exists on the planet!) – I’m eager to visit more of them in South America and the Pacific Rim countries. Have to say I LOVE being back in touch with so many Everglades alumnae on Facebook. I find myself con- tinually wishing I had known so many of you more deeply when we were there. So. Many. Amazing. Everglades. Women!!” 1971 Class Agent: Debi Yohn (drdebiyohn@me.com ) Chris Chapman Hilton writes, “Life is keeping us busy with eight grand- children.
