RE Log - Fall 2022

FALL 2022 Ransom Everglades LOG 3 Please don’t miss the column by Wendell Graham ’74 , Director of Inclusion and Community Engagement, and Victoria Beatty ’00 , DEI Consultant to RE, which examines the school’s progress on some of the most important issues of our time. (See page 26.) We are indebted to Wendell and Victoria for leading us on this journey to a more welcoming, inclusive and diverse campus for all students, faculty and staff. I also direct you to the “Climate Solutions” story on page 28. Under the leadership of Director of Environmental Sustainability Kelly Jackson, our school has made tremendous strides on another critical issue facing this generation: the climate crisis. You will be proud to know that Ransom Everglades has made sustainable practices a priority, and is not only acting, but also emerging as a local leader. Our 2021-22 Report of Giving highlights the loyalty of our community, which was evident with another record-breaking fundraising year under Director of Advancement Melanie Hoffmann and her tremendous team of volunteers and colleagues. You can also read about the first Alumni Weekend on campus in three years, and an extraordinary donation that will provide the foundation for a new humanities building. (See pages 54 and 55.) Someone asked a question the other day that made me smile. As Interim Head of School, the person wanted to know, who is my boss? Of course, I report to the chair of the board of trustees, but in many ways I work for the 11- through 18-year-old students on both of our campuses. My colleagues and I are here for them. They motivate us. They inspire us. They challenge us, some days more than others. They are at the heart of this incredible community, whose proud members are spread across decades, state lines and even continents. As they go out into the world, our students will begin to understand the value of the education they received on our campuses, and the power of the community they enter as alumni. And they will have the pleasure of telling the next generation of stories. Rachel Rodriguez Interim Head of School As they go out into the world, our students will begin to understand the value of the education they received on our campuses, and the power of the community they enter as alumni.” “
