RE Log Spring 2021
SPRING 2021 Ransom Everglades LOG 7 When the pandemic hit, the Miami visual art world reeled. Museums closed their doors. Art exhibits shut down. Art education classes paused. For only the second time in its history – the first was after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 – Art Basel Miami Beach was not held. The anxiety among artists and art lovers reflected the stakes. In the two decades after Basel’s arrival, the city had emerged as an international art destination and incubator of local talent, benefitting from the rise of Wynwood, the unveiling of the Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), and the expansion of various collections. Members of the Ransom Everglades community who contributed to this artistic renaissance found themselves facing an entirely new task as the pandemic descended: REinvention.
