I continue working for Cisco Systems, where I’ve been for 22 years. I volunteer for MIT admissions interviews and as treasurer for my fraternity house corporation. Like many of my classmates, I’m sure, I haven’t seen two of my children, or my two grandchildren, who live in the West, in over a year, but I’m grateful to have one married son nearby in Boston and part of my COVID bubble. I’m hopefully anticipating many changes for the better in 2021.” Lisa Shaw and her family made good use of the time together during the COVID-19 crisis. They created the Escape Notice Games company and launched a drive-in movie series, which benefits local Alexandria, Va., charities. She writes, “Sheltering at home during the pandemic, we rediscovered card games, board games and puzzles, but we still found ourselves searching for new activities. So, we put our love of in-person escape rooms, mysteries and puzzles to work making games for families to enjoy at home. Our 100% female-powered team ranges in age from 16 to 60. We collaborated for months, creating characters, stories and puzzles and gave the game a handcrafted look by designing and making the game materials. Proudly made in the USA, Have you published a book recently? We want to hear from you! Together with local partners, over $125,000 was raised for local charities. Local businesses were employed to run the event. Local families had a great time filling their cars with kids and others in their COVID-19 pods for safe, fun evenings out-of-doors. What started out as a simple idea turned into a huge effort with city permits, sponsors, a command center, first aid, parking support, portable toilets, security, 30+ volunteers, and more to support 400-500 guests each night. A learning experience for sure! Photographed below is one of the movie-goers in his own car.
