42 Ransom Everglades LOG SPRING 2021 Student From the middle school’s Friday Night Fun and Frights – audio performances that aired “live” on Fridays last fall – to a continuation of the REmote REpertoire upper school drama series begun in spring 2020, Ransom Everglades performing arts students devised new ways of sharing their talents in 2020-21. Unable to perform in Swenson Hall or the Lewis Family Auditorium in front of audiences, the school’s strings program livestreamed a pair of pre-recorded concerts in December. Middle school string students performed a holiday concert under the direction of faculty member Jessica Carrasquillo in the Dell, and the upper schoolers played in the performing arts building under Scott O’Donnell. RE’s performing arts shift to remote events and livestreaming Pandemic Performances News Upper school drama students put out three of their variety-show virtual events known as REmote REpertoires by mid-winter, with the second one featuring a pirate dance to a Peter Pan medley around the upper school campus. As this issue went to press, upper school drama students under faculty member Sam Shapiro were preparing for a pre-recorded spring musical – Mary Poppins . Middle schoolers under Cecilia Gonzalez also prepared to share a virtual spring showcase, as upper school band students under Performing Arts Department Chair Jon Hamm also put together a recorded spring concert.
