54 Ransom Everglades LOG SPRING 2020 Class Notes 1990 REUNION YEAR Class Agents: Vanessa Chartouni-de la Serna (vchartouni@aol.com ), James Weaver (jgweaver@sbcglobal.net) , Paige Meginley Winburn (meginburn@mac.com ) Vanessa Chartouni-de la Serna and her husband, Ricardo “Calin” de la Serna, along with their two business partners (and fellow special-needs parents) co-hosted an evening to celebrate the opening of their new school, Steps for Success, on November 14, 2019. Steps for Success is an inten- sive, therapeutic program for adolescent boys affected by developmental delays such as Fragile X Syndrome and autism. Through evidence-based methods, im- mersive experiential activities, functional academics and a real-life home setting, their students grow emotionally and socially, while learning and applying valuable skills for life. This is a unique program and is a dream come true for Vanessa and Calin, as their eldest son is affected by Fragile X Syndrome. It was a great event, attended by many families, educators, therapists and other profes- sionals from the community. While the overwhelmingly positive feedback received by all those who attended was very gratifying for Vanessa and her fam- ily, she stated that the presence and sup- port that evening of some of her fellow RE alumni was truly priceless.
