RE Log - Fall 2020
54 Ransom Everglades LOG FALL 2020 Class Notes an aide (where she was residing) to get the phone number for RE so she could call the school. When I found the paper with the number next to her bed, I also saw Vicki Williamson ’88 , Director of Alumni Engagement, in Eila’s writ- ing; I believe she was planning to call Vicki and also was letting me know how important RE still was to her. Eila loved the Everglades School for Girls and then Ransom Everglades and was so proud that I was able to attend (with financial aid) from grades 8-12. She and I have stayed in touch with and supported the school since my graduation in 1976.” Memorial gifts of financial aid to Ransom Everglades School can be given online: www.ransomeverglades.org/make-a-gift *Near the End In her last lucid conversation, my mother told me she was on the campus of my high school in South Florida, Ransom Everglades, laughing with Dan Bowden, English teacher for more than sixty years, our own bard. She was so happy to be there a place she loved for me a place, I think she wished had been hers— beyond the dream. Thanks to Nancy Coudriet Bolen for ringing my doorbell today! FYI, no hug for us; we were approximately six feet apart for most of the visit but moved closer only for the photo. Hope our RE ’78 classmates are healthy and happy during this COVID-19 crisis.” 1979 Class Agents: Lorraine Dan (grnddesign@bellsouth.net ), Anthony Rolle (aarolle5@aol.com) , Natalie Ross (nathross@aol.com ) Lorraine Dan , see Steven Blair Dan ’82, In Loving Memory Anthony Rolle is a member of the 2020-21 Ransom Everglades Alumni Board. These past several months have been a time of reflection for Anthony. He has shared the following photos of his parents, both of whom he is most proud of. His father was a Black police officer in Coconut Grove. He proudly par- ticipated each year in the Orange Bowl Parade in downtown Miami. His father is photographed here on horseback. Anthony’s mother was one of the first women to attend the Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy. The mission of the Xavier University of Louisiana College of Pharmacy is to prepare pharmacists to impact the medically underserved com- munities, particularly African Americans, in an effort to eliminate health disparities through patient-centered care, com- munity service and scholarly work. His parents were huge believers in family, education and hard work. Their beliefs continue to be the foundation of all that Anthony and his family do today.
