What we had planned as an hour, turned into over two hours; had a great time sharing my memories (and ephemera I’d saved) — especially of the Earth Day teach-ins that I’d helped orga- nize. I’ve been teaching ‘Legal Issues for the Performing Arts,’ and ‘Introduction to Nonprofit Cultural Institutions’ for the past 12 years. A Ransom Everglades alum was in my class this past spring se- mester: Matias Junghahn ’17 . Matias was in my class that also works on the TADA Project (The Audio Described Art Project), creating audio descriptions of public art to make the works acces- sible to people who are blind and low vision. Creating arts access for people with disabilities has been my primary focus for the past several years. Also had a great visit from Bruce Kaplan this past year, and have also run into Towny Ludington ’53 (who lives down the road in Chapel Hill) at a few arts-related events. 1974 Class Agents: Andrew Hague (ashague@yahoo.com) , Douglas Weiser (doug@4weiser.com ) 1975 Class Agents: Edward Casal (emc.home@gmail.com ), John Fleeman (jbflee@gmail.com ) Ramesh Nyberg writes, “This year has been a time of enormous change for our family — we’ve tasted the bitter and the sweet; losing a close family member just after moving closer to RE during the pandemic; but best of all, I was selected as Director of Security and Auxiliary Programs for RE. I am excited and honored for this rewarding position. It’s a thrill to be part of RE’s legacy, and now, its journey into the future. In September of 2019, I became a grandfather! Our little guy turned 1 year in September. Lots of wonderful things to look forward to!” Stephen Sawitz participated in one of our first Paul Ransom Digital Podiums. The heads of Miami’s longest-lived and most iconic restaurants – Stephen of Joe’s Stone Crab and Shareef Malnik ’76, P’19 ’22 of The Forge – offered frank assessments of COVID-19’s toll on the industry, yet noted to a virtual audi- ence on May 6 that crises are nothing new for their century-old establishments. To an audience of parents, alumni and other members of the RE community. Sawitz and Malnik reminded that The Forge and Joe’s have survived wars, hurricanes, financial crises, fires and the foibles of previous operators. See page 32.
