18 Ransom Everglades LOG FALL 2020 Our musical theater class produced a number of music videos, including one in which students re-wrote the words to well-known songs to share their frustrations with quarantine and desire to be together. Their work captured the times – and was phenomenal! Cecilia Gonzalez , performing arts When the coronavirus first broke out in Wuhan, China at the end of last year, I wrote new lessons using the vocabulary to help them learn coronavirus-related information [in Chinese]. As an educator, I have learned a lot so far during the first half of 2020. Youming Che , world languages Our Global Studies Entrepreneurship class collaborated on a website called COVID-19: A Global Case Study. The website proved to be a challenging endeavor because we were dealing with the crisis unfolding in real-time. Staying abreast of daily news and curating relevant articles was both trying and rewarding. Jen Nero , chair, humanities I often had students break off into small groups to work on written assignments, in order to encourage more authentic conversations and engagement with the content of the class. Dr. Jonathan Scholl history and social sciences Relevance In creative writing, students found lots of writing material in the unprecedented circumstances and the challenges of finishing their senior year remotely. Students found some reassurance in hearing that their classmates felt the same way. They also wrote some pretty amazing poetry.
