RE Log - Fall 2020

16 Ransom Everglades LOG FALL 2020 I learned to use technology as a tool to improve my lessons and teaching techniques. I became more flexible, understanding, and open- minded to different ways of delivering my lessons and assessing students. Mandira Bose-Nyberg math and computer science I met my goal of going paperless in the classroom. I have wanted to go paperless for environmental reasons, and this pandemic gave me the push. My classes became more collaborative and utilized technology in useful and innovative ways. Dr. Corinne Rhyner, English For my Honors Chemistry class, as a lab I ran a bunch of demonstrations which I called Feats of Magic. They each incorporated understanding of intermolecular forces and how particles “stick” to one another. Each student had to video themselves using a relative at home as a victim – read: volunteer – to demonstrate the same feat of magic. So many video submissions came in with students dangling cups of water above moms and dads, and lots of squeals as the feats of magic worked! Jorge Camacho, science We used Adobe Spark, Canva, and Wix for different creative projects … In all of these projects, students had to come up with a way to effectively communicate scientific language to their audience that included infographics, visuals, etc. Some students built websites, while other students created videos on WeVideo. Alexandra Gunner, science It was an opportunity to learn more about more ways I could use technology as a learning tool. Since each student had a laptop, it was easier to assign writing and give feedback. I was able to communicate with students right after I looked at their work.
