RE Log Spring 2019

SPRING 2019 Ransom Everglades LOG 69 Scott Fuhrman ’00 has Miami roots that go back almost as far as Paul Ransom’s – his grandmother arrived in Miami just after World War I. Ten years later, she met his grandfather when they both worked at the Hotel Martinique on Miami Beach. Together, they bought a fruit products company in Allapattah that became a pioneer in the organic juice market and a source of family pride. Scott is now the third-generation chairman, chief executive officer and sole shareholder of Florida Bottling, which markets its products under the Lakewood Organic brand. His juices can be found in major retailers across America as well as dozens of foreign countries. Scott and his sister Kelly Fuhrman Taylor ’99 were in the first and second Ransom Everglades sixth-grade classes. He re- members how each year at least one teacher took a special interest in him. Together, they provided him the encouragement and mentoring he wholeheartedly admits he needed to keep his focus on academics, sports and earning his Eagle Scout amid the many distrac- tions of his teenage years. When Ransom Everglades announced its REinventing Excellence campaign, Scott was among the first to make a pledge. The words of Paul Ransom and his charge to give back more to the world than one takes from it have shaped Scott’s life, and he enthusi- astically supports the school’s continued commitment to shaping the next generation of leaders and instilling in students a passion for community service. “It is my privilege to give back to the school that did so much in terms of shaping my personal character and giving me a solid foundation upon which to build my professional career,” Fuhrman said. “I am grateful for the words of Paul Ransom, for the teachers who cared about me, and for my fellow alumni who have never failed to help me in my various endeavors. The REinventing Excellence campaign is a terrific way to support an institution which has done so much, not just for all of us, but for the community at large.” Third-generation local business owner supports his alma mater WhyIGive Scott Fuhrman ’00 and his parents Tom and Susan Fuhrman Scott Fuhrman ’00 and his wife Lindsay with their children Eleanor, Amelia and Penelope Scott Fuhrman ’00
