SPRING 2019 Ransom Everglades LOG 49 2001 Class Agents: Josefina Farra (josefina.farra@gmail.com ), Blair Reinarman (blair44@gmail.com ), Eugene Montoya Alessandri (ekmontoya@outlook.com) Alex Fumero started his own produc- tion company, Key Rat, Inc., after leaving his role in New York as Vice-President of Original Programming for HBO earlier this year. His first project is a documen- tary about the fabulous Latino astrologer, Walter Mercado. He and his wife, Lizzie, happily relocated back to Los Angeles with their dog Turtle. Marcella McCarthy writes, “Ransom Everglades and [former photography teacher] Sheila de Lemos introduced me to photography back in 1999, and I got hooked pretty quickly. I went on to take classes in college, too, and then dragged my camera on any trips I took — which were many. But when I was no longer in school, I realized that finding and signing up for photography classes in Miami was a pain ... After years of complaining that classes didn’t have reviews, that some of the marketing photos were dingy, and that the actual sign-up process was outdated, my parents encouraged me to build something that would solve all these problems. The result is Skillied, a web platform that makes it easy for people to find and register for local, in- person classes in the community (think cooking, photography, art, web develop- ment and more!) … Skillied has been live for more than a year now and every month hundreds of people take classes all over Miami and Broward through Skillied. This past summer, one of those people — totally by coincidence — was Sheila de Lemos, the woman behind my passion for photography. I saw Sheila’s name pop-up on the app I use to keep track of payments, and I immediately called my team over and said ‘Guys, this Sheila is Sheila de Lemos, my former photography teacher; photography is the reason I started Skillied!’ Well, the surprises just kept coming. It turns out Sheila loves to cook, so over the next couple of weeks, she purchased cooking classes all over town through Skillied. The funny thing is, we hadn’t seen each other since 2001 and she didn’t know I had started Skillied. We all know Miami is a small world, but in the 20 years I’ve lived here, this really felt next level when it comes to ‘small world.’ Sheila and I re- connected at an Instagram class recently (photo above), and as she was telling me about her pooch, Simone De Beauvoir — named after the French Feminist — a light bulb went off: ‘Marcella, what if I taught a dog photography class?’ All I could say is, ‘Of course.’ Sheila’s Dog Photography (BYO Dog) class was November 10 at X Miami Social Communities in downtown Miami. Between what I learned at RE and the people I met (and continue to meet), I continuously feel that my RE education is the best gift my parents ever gave me.” Eugene Montoya is well on his way to the five-year mark at the New York Fed with a recent promotion to a Senior Institutional Specialist. His daily job includes deep analysis and engagement of the risk and business profiles of large foreign banks operating in the second district of the Federal Reserve System. In addition to his daily work, he is cham- pioning climate finance initiatives both personally and professionally through volunteer work with non-governmental organizations and in seeking to bring the integration of environmental and social risks into the U.S. financial system. Life is good in New York, but he always wel- comes his frequent trips home to Miami to see family, friends and beautiful South Florida nature. Katie Buchanan Reynolds writes, “On September 2, 2018, my husband Britton and I welcomed a baby boy into the world. Cooper Joseph Reynolds. Born in Naperville, Ill.. 9 lbs., 1 oz. and 20.25 inches long. In other news, we are also relocating to Madison, Wis., in spring 2019. Lots of changes for us and we are so excited about all of them!” Sarah Stamler , daughter of Assistant Head of the Middle School Shelly Stamler, gave birth in October 2018 to Charlotte Rose Stamler Serviansky, who weighed in at 6 lbs. 14 oz. Sarah was delighted that Luke Samson ’03 and Mallory Fink ’06 served as her anesthesiologist and nurse anesthetist, respectively, during the delivery. 2002 Class Agents: Christian Fong (christian@cfonglaw.com ), Chris Malek (cmmalek@gmail.com) , Cory Needle (cory.needle@gmail.com ), Billie Schwartz (billie.schwartz@gmail. com), Danielle Marks Williamson (marks.danielle@gmail.com ) Cary Aronovitz writes, “I joined the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida in 2014.
