I worked in the Economic Crimes Unit; the Organized Crime/Public Corruption Unit; Division Chief and Major Crimes. I served 10 years as the Chief of Gang Prosecutions (simultaneous to my position as a Division Chief, Homicide prosecutor and Organized Crime/Public Corruption Unit). I was also cross-des- ignated as a Special Assistant Statewide Prosecutor to lead the investigation and prosecution of the first racketeering case filed against an organized street gang in the State of Florida. I was elected to the bench in November of 1996 and began my judicial career on January 7, 1997. I served in the civil and criminal divi- sions and spent seven years as an Acting Circuit Court Judge where I presided over the specialized hearings involving only cases where the defendant faced either life in prison or the death penalty.
