RE Log Spring 2019
22 Ransom Everglades LOG SPRING 2019 For much of 2018, Ransom Everglades prepared for the transformation of the Ransom Campus with the necessary demolition that precedes con- struction. As the dust settled and 2019 dawned, the school moved into a welcome building phase. In January and early February, workers laid 15,000 square feet of permeable pavers to create an attractive new drop-off loop and entry road. The new route, which runs between the Lewis Family Auditorium and Ransom Cottage, includes charcoal, gray and off-white pavers in a her- ringbone pattern. It was scheduled to open for vehicular traffic in the spring. The loop’s completion sets the stage for an even more exciting phase of RE’s REinventing Excellence campaign: the start of construction on the STEM Center. Work on the building’s founda- tion was underway as this issue went to press. Last November, Ransom Everglades said goodbye to Timken Hall, which was the last of the group of low-slung academic and non-academic buildings between Cameron Hall and the Lewis Family Auditorium to face demolition. The removal of those buildings created room for the three-story, 45,000 sq. ft. STEM Center and a new, tree-lined quad between the center and the Visual Arts Building. Earlier in the fall, RE opened a new Wellness Center for students (see page 27) and completed an internal makeover of Cameron Hall. The revamped Cameron Hall includes a new lobby and reception area for visitors, classrooms and second- floor offices for the school’s grade-level academic deans. At the start of the 2018-19 school year, Ransom Everglades moved its college counseling office to the Pagoda as it prepared to transfer many of the school’s administrative operations to the main house on the La Brisa property purchased in 2016.
