Since I was really little … they’ve been encouraging me to think about the world differently.” All of the siblings excelled on RE’s math team where, Matt said, each experienced a feeling of belonging and community. Matt also made a name for himself by giving a TEDx talk on “The Great American Video Game.” John landed on the local evening news for earning perfect scores on the AP Calculus BC test and the AP Physics C: Mechanics test. Anna, the president of RE’s programming team, invented a scheduling app – BellBuddy – that can be found on the App Store and is used at Ransom Everglades and other schools. “Her grades are obviously stellar, but this is not what drives Anna – never have I seen the phrase ‘a love for learning’ more accurately applied,” said her advisor Greg Cooper, also Dean of the Senior Class. “She is also a wonderfully caring, empathetic and friendly citizen of our community.” Anna said she loved her years at RE. She and her brothers agreed the only pressure they felt from their parents was to enjoy their education – and get to bed early. The Mistele parents’ insistence on a strict 10 p.m. bedtime grew somewhat legendary at RE. Though they never aspired to be a family of valedictorians, there was no shortage of joy when Anna texted the news to the family chat. “I was most excited when she got into Stanford and was coming to Stanford,” Matt said. “Getting named valedictorian as well was like icing on the cake.” Anna traveled to Palo Alto to join her brothers this fall. Matt is working on his master’s degree in computer science after earning his BA in mathematical and computational science. John is studying mathematics. The brothers plan to do what they have always done: inspire and support their little sister. “I’m super happy,” John said. “I’m proud of her … She’s the coolest little sister I could’ve asked for.” “It's just been a road of learning new things. Getting valedictorian was just a happy surprise.” – Anna Mistele ’19 Photographs by Jenny Abreu The Class of 2019 at Commencement on May 24, 2019 FALL 2019 Ransom Everglades LOG 29
