RE Log Fall 2019

FALL 2019 Ransom Everglades LOG 21 RE’s board chair brings his spirit to Ransom Everglades A son of media magnate Edmund Ansin, the owner of WSVN-Channel 7, and Miami City Ballet founder Toby Lerner Ansin, Ansin joined his family in supporting the state-of-the-art pool that became the Ansin Aquatic Center and investing in a larger-than-life replacement of the prior Raider statue that went missing from Raider Plaza. As board chair, Ansin has succeeded in leaving his own stamp on Ransom Everglades, leading the school through a transformative construction project. Ansin logs hours each week on campus, mired in meetings and up to his elbows in designs, details and decisions as a fully engaged member of the board’s building and grounds committee. Brother to James Ansin ’84 and Stephanie Lerner Ansin ’90 , he is also a proud parent of Sophie ’25, Helen ’26 , Alex and Sidney. He dutifully attends parent events on the Everglades Campus with his wife Tatsiana “Tanya” Ansin. Adv enturing with Andy Ansin ’81 “We are on target to finish the building early in 2020. It’s going to raise the bar for all future academic facilities on campus.” Photograph by David Cerame When Andy Ansin ’81 describes his first year as board chair at Ransom Everglades as an adventure, that’s saying something. A state champion water polo player while at RE, Ansin unwinds by heading out to the deep sea and hunting massive fish with a spear, a pastime that has landed him 15 world records – one as recently as last year. Ansin has brought his adventuresome spirit to his alma mater, which is just months away from unveiling a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Center, a major milestone in its $75 million REinventing Excellence campaign.
