RE Log Fall 2019
FALL 2019 Ransom Everglades LOG 19 If you happened to attend Temple Beth Am Community Theater’s second annual spring musical, Beauty and the Beast , you might have recognized a familiar Raider in that Cogsworth costume: John Fleeman ’75, who never lost his early passion for singing and performing. This hidden talent was initially nurtured while he was a student at the Ransom School, taking voice lessons at the Everglades School for Girls where his sister Julia Fleeman ’71 attended classes. He noted that Ransom’s small size encouraged students to participate in a variety of activities, and he remains grateful for that experience. While a student, he played tennis and basketball, worked on the newspaper, and played in the band. Receiving his college acceptance to Bowdoin after his junior year, he left Miami for a brief taste of northern cold (even his yearbook photo was taken in Maine), but returned home after graduation to friendlier temperatures and opportunities. Back in Miami, while pursuing a career in commercial real estate, Fleeman stayed connected to the school and classmates, and he and wife Diana sent daughters Jessica Fleeman ’09 and Rebecca Fleeman AA ’07 to Ransom Everglades. An early member of the alumni board, he has been a loyal supporter of the school for a quarter of a century, inspired by the quality of the education he received and the dedication of the school’s teachers. “At Ransom, my eyes were opened to so many things that I had not thought about,” he said. “Who I am today was shaped by my years at Ransom, and I want others to have the same opportunity that I had when I stepped onto the campus at age 12, 50 years ago.” A quarter century of loyalty John Fleeman ’75 John Fleeman ’75
