SPRING 2018 Ransom Everglades LOG 69 “My mother and I wanted to honor the memory of my brother, Stanley D. Maisel ’72 , with a legacy that is both lasting and mean- ingful. We cannot think of a more appropriate way to commemorate Stanley’s life than to offer the gift of a Ransom Everglades education to a talented student who otherwise would not have such an op- portunity. From the time that he was eight years old, Stanley aspired to be a physician. He loved his years at Ransom, though I often joke that he spent so much time in his bedroom doing homework that I only saw him at dinner. He continued his studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, after receiving early acceptance to its honors program. He then earned his medical degree at the osteo- pathic medical school in Kansas City, Mo. Shortly after graduation, he realized his lifelong dream of opening his own medical practice in Atlanta, Ga. Tragically, that dream was cut short when he passed away at the age of 34. My mother and I want to ensure that Stanley’s dream lives on through The Stanley D. Maisel ’72 Endowed Scholarship Fund. We hope that this scholarship will bring a smile to the faces of all who knew Stanley; ensure that his short but sig- nificant time on earth never will be forgotten; and help generations of Ransom Everglades students achieve their own dreams.” Maisel family endows The Stanley D.
