I married my wife, Berit, in October 2015. We met during my undergradu- ate study at Furman where she was on foreign exchange from the Netherlands. She graduated last year with her PhD in English from the University of Florida. While she finished her PhD, I worked at the UF College of Medicine writing course material for an online graduate certificate program for students studying to become substance abuse counselors. In winter 2017, we took the big jump across the pond and now live in Amsterdam where I freelance as a personal trainer and fitness instructor, edit academic texts, and of course, learn Dutch! Berit teaches at one of the universities here in Amsterdam. While we certainly miss friends and family back in the USA, life here is great. The couple plans to marry in March 2018. See Leslie Miller Saiontz ’77 . Mason Zemel writes, “Hello there! I haven’t updated ever actually, but here it goes. After deciding on medical school, I went to American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) in Sint Maarten. I was just able to return home after spending the past semester in Preston, UK, after the devastation of Hurricane Irma. AUC was devastated, and due to our relationship with the National Health Service we were lucky for University of Central Lancashire in Preston to take in 500 students for now. Half will be return- ing to Sint Maarten next semester, while some will still be in the UK. Luckily, I was not on the island at the time, but it was quite a loss. I have what I had in my suit- cases at the time, but I have great friends and family for help! I can’t wait to go back soon to see what I can do to help. I just got home from England after being top 20 in my class through the basic sciences and will be starting my clinical rotations in Brooklyn or Miami in May!
