40 Ransom Everglades LOG SPRING 2018 RE Sports Youth Movement Girls’ and boys’ golf teams sweep local championships RE’s varsity golf program showed incredible promise as young squads led by twins Jake Beber-Frankel ’20 and Phoebe Beber-Frankel ’20 swept the district and regional meets and earned trips to the 2017 Florida High School Golf State Championships. Jake won the individual boys’ district and regional championships and Phoebe won the girls’ individual regional title, ensuring that the Raiders dominated the fall postseason events. The victory at regionals and subsequent appearance at the November state meet were firsts for the boys’ team. Three sophomores powered RE’s boys, who were coached by David Ragan, and two sophomores and one junior led the girls’ team under coach Eric Salomatoff. The girls finished eighth at states. At districts, Jake Beber-Frankel (68), Marc Chaneles ’20 (74), Anderson Murphy ’19 (75) and Zachary Buttrick ’20 (79) combined to shoot 296 – the best team score in Raider history. Co-captain and four-year starter Josh Solesbury ’18 (83) also posted a strong showing as the Raiders easily topped second-place finisher Westminster Christian, which scored a 349. The girls’ team of Phoebe Beber-Frankel (76), Megan Houchin ’19 (86), Rachel De Angulo ’20 (87) and Kathleen Cochran ’18 (111) tallied a 360 at districts, edging Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart (363) for the girls’ title. Olivia Castillo ’21 (112) also contributed to the championship.
