SPRING 2018 Ransom Everglades LOG 35 The drama program at Ransom Everglades showed its range and excellence in crowd-pleasing performances on both campuses last fall. Upper School students performed the uproarious Moon Over Buffalo at the Lewis Family Auditorium Oct. 20-21, 2017, under first-year performing arts teacher Sam Shapiro, leaving the audience in stitches. Middle School drama students fol- lowed with an exhilarating rendi- tion of High School Musical under the direction of Cecilia Gonzalez that drew resounding standing ovations at Swenson Hall on Nov. 8, 9 and 10. Gonzalez, a graduate of the University of Miami Frost School of Music and Miami’s New World School of the Arts, is currently pursuing a Master of Arts at UM. Dramatic Duo Performances at the US and MS showcase student talent Shapiro arrived to Ransom Everglades last sum- mer from director’s roles at the Miami Children’s Theater and Broadway Musical Theatre on Key Biscayne; she also served as a casting production assistant for Steven Spielberg’s entertainment company, Amblin Entertainment. Eight students ranging from ninth to 12th grades expertly executed the Upper School production; Juan Gabriel “Juanchi” Roca-Paisley ’19 and Margaret “Ivy” McWilliams ’18 played the lead characters in the two-act Ken Ludwig farcical play that also included Vanessa Gonzalez ’19, Rachel Seipp ’19, Roy “R.J.” Black ’19, Viviana Freyer ’20, Liam de Araujo ’21 and Rudy Prio Touzet ’18. Nick Rubino ’23, Zoe Holtzman ’22, Alexa Hommen ’22 and Nico Maynulet ’23 led the talented and expansive cast for High School Musical . Drama teacher Gina Montet and many others assisted with both productions.
