88 Ransom Everglades LOG )$// Nathaniel G. Harrison III ’70 , “Nat” passed away on April 7, 2018, follow- ing a seven- month battle with cancer. Born in Miami to Nathaniel G. Harrison, Jr., and Elaine Adams Harrison in 1952, Nat grew up in Miami and Fort Pierce on Adams Ranch, the family ranch started by his grandfather, Judge Alto Lee Adams. As a young man in South Florida, Nat witnessed several historic events: he stood on the beach and watched warships stream past Miami towards Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis; he hopped over the fence of the Orange Bowl to see Super Bowl II; and he was in the audience of the Dinner Key Auditorium during The Doors’ concert after which Jim Morrison was arrested for lewd behavior. After gradu- ating from the Ransom School in 1970, Nat traveled west to attend college at the 8QLYHUVLW\ RI 'HQYHU ZKHUH KH JUDGX- ated with a bachelor’s degree in business. 8QVXUH RI KLV QH[W VWHS 1DW MRLQHG WKH crew of Summer Wind, a sailboat cir- cumnavigating the globe. When Summer Wind stopped in Mooloolaba, Australia, Nat met the love of his life, Tammy, who was intrigued by his ability to charm her pet cockatoo, Mussels. Nat and Tammy were married in 1980 on Adams Ranch, surrounded by family and fellow mem- bers of Summer Wind. Sparked by his grandmother Carra Adams’ cornbread and kindled during his time in the galley on Summer Wind, Nat pursued a career as a chef. He honed his skills and knives by cooking in high-end restaurants through- out South Florida, Los Angeles and Colorado, running Carnivore’s Catering in Fort Pierce, and more recently, working at Quail Creek Plantation in Okeechobee. He was known for his distinct barbecue, ZKLFK EOHQGHG ORFDO )ORULGD ÀDYRUV ZLWK techniques learned in Texas. His signature dishes included swamp cabbage, smoked brisket and a white barbecue sauce that he developed himself. In addition to his food, Nat was beloved by family, friends, DQG JXHVWV IRU KLV RɣEHDW VHQVH RI KXPRU dedication, and big heart. Nat is survived by his wife Tammy; his daughters Natalie and Sarah; his mother Elaine; his brothers Mark, Patrick, Peter, and their families; his aunt Dot; and his cousins Lee, Mike, Robby and their families. Robert Michael Healy ’71 , a longtime resident of Miami, passed away on July 21, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. Robert was preceded in death by his father Albert and mother Alice. He is survived by his sister Maria, brother Larry (Laurel), niece Shannon and nephew Michael. In his decades-long career with WKH 8QLYHUVLW\ RI 0LDPL 5REHUW ZDV D highly accomplished and universally admired instructor who taught dozens of undergraduate courses, and positively LQÀXHQFHG WKRXVDQGV RI VWXGHQWV DQG FRO- leagues. Robert’s enthusiasm, passion and knowledge earned him the respect of both his students and colleagues. Pamela Jefferson ’71 died in August ɳɱɲɷ 3DP ZDV D PHPEHU )LVN 8QLYHUVLW\ Class of 1975 and served as a nurse for a large part of her career. The Class RI ɲɺɸɲ ZDV WKH ¿UVW WR EH LQWHJUDWHG and she, along with Eleanor George DQG 'HORULV 0\HUV ZDV RQH RI WKH ¿UVW African-American students to attend the Everglades School for Girls. Peggy Golden Johnson ’66 , see Judy Powers Johnson ’62 (Everglades). Rob Koeppel ’76 . After a valiant eight- year battle with multiple myeloma, Rob departed this earthly life peacefully on June 12, 2018, surrounded by his lov- ing family. He was a third generation Dade Countian and a seventh genera- tion Floridian. He was the son of Petsy Gautier Mezey, father of Robert Koeppel G DQG VWHS IDWKHU RI &OLɣRUG 0H]H\ G He is survived by his wife Ana, children Lauren and Robert III, brother Steve, sister Peyton K. Lester, step-brother Wade Mezey (Sally) and step-sister Marne and a large extended family. Possessing a sharp mind and a great sense of humor, Rob graduated from Ransom Everglades where he was a National Merit Scholar. He attended Georgia Tech and Miami- Dade where he earned his AA degree. A lifelong car enthusiast, Rob founded and was president of Force Fuel, a specialty automotive business. He loved people and animals, and will surely be greeted by two of his favorite German Shepherds in heaven. Rob was a kind and generous man. He adored his family, was loyal to his friends and treated all people fairly and equally. He never met a stranger.
