A.J. Spurr , an incoming sophomore at 8QLYHUVLW\ RI $ODEDPD KDV LQWHUQHG IRU two local radio stations in the Tuscaloosa area. He is the associate producer for the “SmashMouth Radio” show from 12-2 p.m. CST at Tide 102.9 FM, a sports talk radio station that broadcasts through- out central Alabama. At the station. A.J. DOVR ZRUNV DW :98$ ɺɱ ɸ )0 ³7KH Capstone”), which is a university-run station, college-radio format. This past year he hosted a two-hour music show twice a week, and was selected to create, design and host a regularly scheduled sports talk show. That show is set to start in the upcoming fall semester. A very special thank you to A.J. for his part in RE’s March Madness videos. F ormer F acul ty Matilee Howard Johnson (associate alum ’61), a former Everglades faculty member, has been featured in a number of Marquis Who’s Who publications, includ- ing: Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women . Inspired by her teachers, Matilee pursued a career in education after com- pleting her undergraduate curriculum at WKH 8QLYHUVLW\ RI *HRUJLD 0DWLOHH QRZ lives in South Carolina with her husband Emerson and spends her time swimming, VNLLQJ DQG FUHDWLQJ MHZHOU\ DQG ÀRZHU DU- rangements. She still keeps in touch with many of her former Everglades students. William “Bill” Strong , a Ransom School faculty member from 1955-57, stopped by campus last February. Though he worked at Ransom for just a few years, it holds a special place in his heart. After Ransom, Bill found his way to Cuba through the family of associate alum Don Jordan ’59 , whose father was the German Ambassador to Cuba. In Cuba, he worked to help the less fortunate by assisting with food distribution and family planning. He also worked with the Peace Corps in the VXJDU FDQH ¿HOGV %LOO FXUUHQWO\ OLYHV LQ Newton, Pa., with his wife Nancy. While semi-retired, he has enjoyed restoring old books through his own business, Bill Strong Book Restoration ( strongbookre- pair.com ). M ya W righ t received a 2018 Young Pillars award and scholarship from Miami-Dade County’s Black Heritage Planning Committee in recognition of her academic achievement and involvement in various civic-oriented activities. She was congratulated by county commissioner Xavier L. Suarez in June. Wrote Suarez: “Congrats to our own Mya Wright on being honored as a Young Pillar Saturday by Miami-Dade County Black Advisory Board. She’s a graduate of Ransom Everglades and now attends Mt. Holyoke College.” Ben Rosenthal ’18 , Raquel Coronell ’18 and Ryan Sears ’18 got together on PRYH LQ GD\ DW +DUYDUG 8QLYHUVLW\
