A Miami native, Emily spent her elementary school summers at the Lowe Art Museum, where she found joy in drawing and creat- ing. Years later, she returned to the same FDPSXV IRU WKH 8QLYHUVLW\ RI 0LDPL¶V Master of Architecture program, where she continued designing and is now deter- mined to hone her skills for positive com- munity impact. Emily’s initial desire to PDNH D GLɣHUHQFH LQ WKH ZRUOG ZDV LJQLWHG during her formative years at Ransom Everglades, as well as an eye-opening H[SHULHQFH DW 6HHGV RI 3HDFH LQ 2WLV¿HOG Maine. As a teenager at Seeds of Peace, Emily was part of the American delegation that worked with young people from areas RI KHDWHG FRQÀLFW LQ WKH 0LGGOH (DVW DQG Southeast Asia. The participants, some of whom have remained close friends, would have a profound impact on how she viewed the world, opening her mind to view problems from all perspectives, and opening a window of understanding into KRZ GLɣHUHQW FXOWXUHV DQG FRPPXQLWLHV may be impacted by, and cope with, social, economic, environmental and political issues. Emily completed her Bachelor RI $UWV DQG 6FLHQFH DW 7XIWV 8QLYHUVLW\ majoring in architectural and urban stud- ies. Social conscience was at the core of her studies, combining her passions for tackling social issues with her love for in- novative design. In her senior year, Emily interned at Boston’s MASS Design Group, D ¿UP ZKRVH PLVVLRQ LV WR UHVHDUFK build and advocate for architecture that promotes justice and human dignity. She learned how a group of passionate profes- sionals could use their collaborative skill sets to empower communities worldwide through thoughtful design and planning of public spaces and special-purpose EXLOGLQJV (PLO\ UHWXUQHG WR 80 WR complete her Master of Architecture and transform these concepts and passions into real-world and applicable skills. Miami has done me well so far. I get to design large-scale interiors for hotels like the Mandarin Oriental in Santiago, which is a renovation project that will be complete by the end of 2018.
