Two of the squads won prestigious prizes, topping nearly 400 teams from around the world, and the third RE team ad- YDQFHG WR WKH ¿QDO URXQG ¿QLVKLQJ WLHG IRU VL[WK LQ LWV GLYLVLRQ Sofia Paraoulaki de Miranda ’23 , Victoria Paraoulaki de Miranda ’24 , Charlotte Kennedy ’24 , Gracie Hucks ’24 , Catherine Buckner ’24 , Fiona Oberg ’24 and Chloe Alfonso ’24 earned the Build Award, which recognizes a sturdy, well-crafted robot, DQG DOVR DGYDQFHG WR WKH ¿QDO URXQG LQ WKH WHFKQRORJ\ GLYLVLRQ ¿QLVK- LQJ WLHG IRU ¿IWK Andre Joseph ’22, Max Vallone ’22, Dashiell DeStefano ’22, Gideon Shaked ’22, Erick Gross ’24 and Isabela Camacho ’22 won the Create Award, which recognizes a robot with a creative en- gineering solution. The team of Pablo Rodriguez-Russowsky ’23, Luca Trebotich ’23, Diego de Lope ’23 and Victor Perez ’23 ¿QLVKHG WLHG IRU VL[WK LQ WKH DUWV GLYLVLRQ All three teams were led by MS robotics coach Gustavo Palacios. 3KyVLFV 3URZHVV 5(ȆV SKyVLFV WHDP ZLQV WRS DZDUGV 5(¶V SK\VLFV WHDP ¿QLVKHG ¿UVW RYHUDOO LQ WKH ɲɸWK DQQXDO &KHPLVWU\ DQG 3K\VLFV 7RXUQDPHQW DW %DUU\ 8QLYHUVLW\ RQ April 13, claiming victories in both the oral and lab com- SHWLWLRQV DQG SODFLQJ ¿YH VWXGHQWV LQ WKH WRS ɲɱ LQGLYLGX- ally – including Ryan Tie-Shue ’18 , who earned the top individual score. More than 160 students from 14 local high schools competed. The physics team members were students in Anita Joseph’s AP Physics C class: Evan Azari ’18 , Ganesh Gajavelli ’18 , Benjamin Rosenthal ’18, Harry Sanchez ’18, Jacob Tie-Shue ’18 and Ryan Tie-Shue. Paul Natland ’02 served as coach of that team. RE’s chemistry team, which was coached by Doug Heller ’80 , scored one win, as Calliste Skouras ’19 placed eighth individually. Science Department Chair Jay Salon oversaw both teams at the event.
