FALL 2016 Ransom Everglades LOG 49 Ransom Everglades 1975 Bruce Anapol introduced his son Connor to RE this past May. Bruce and Connor were visiting from Northern California. Jose Tamayo Herrera graduated from Ransom School in 1975, then attended the Georgia Institute of Technology in the civil engineering program. He engaged in post-graduate diploma studies at the University of Florida’s Warrington School of Business, Florida Banking School, and at the University of Miami’s International Banking School of the Southeast. Jeri (Waxenberg) Wolfson is honored to have 17 works from her Collection of Women Modernists displayed by The Wolfsonian Museum FIU. The show, which can be seen during Art Basel, is titled “The Pursuit of Abstraction” and runs Oct. 7, 2016, through Feb. 26, 2017, with a VIP open- ing Oct. 6, 2016. Here is a brief on the show: “In the first half of the twentieth century, when science and philosophy fostered an understanding of the world defined by objectivity, materialism, and reason, many artists cultivated new forms of spiritual expression that resisted these secular currents. The Pursuit of Abstraction presents works that invoke spiritual crisis and renewal as central to the modern experience, drawing on the fine and decorative art holdings of The Wolfsonian-FIU, The Jeri L. Wolfson Collection, and the promised gift from The Mitchell Wolfson Jr. Collection of Decorative and Propaganda Arts.” 1976 Following is a toast given by Roger Soman at the Class of 1976 40-Year Reunion, which was hosted by RE board chairman Rudy Prio Touzet and his wife Lydia at Monty’s Raw Bar in Coconut Grove. Let’s take a moment and send our thoughts and prayers to those who couldn’t be here, chose not to be here … and to those families of our fellow class- mates who have passed away. I wrote a short but sweet tribute to some pretty outstanding people. It’s called “’76 is all around us” and I’m going to try to deliver it in Steve Hughes’ sotto voce, in Jeff Zuckerman -inspired perfect iambic pentameter. ’76 is all around us … The next time you wanna do something Call James Franklin to see if it’ll be a good weather day To run with Laurie Lasseter , or… to take out the Rob Koeppel souped-up ride gliding along Cherry pre-casted highways Passing the theatre with a Sheldon Deckelbaum production Listening to Theo Etzel’s book-on-tape (“Invest your Heartbeats Wisely,” …avail- able at Amazon; $7.99 Kindle download) …or listening to Betsy Berg’s talent do- ing a broadcast …or admire your Hugh Flax -done teeth munching on Lou Dessaint’s avocados …’76 is all around us Want to stay at a Lisa Cole Hilton …designed by Jack Plunkett …owned and operated by Rudy Prio Touzet …hung with Jamie Thomson and Tommy Weinkle art? …or have a coffee in the lobby “Hyphen” restaurant courtesy of Nina Slotkin overlooking remodel job by Mahoney Baggs …’76 is all around us Maybe you’re wearing a “Bravelet” from Sue Crocker’s daughter …after a procedure by Seth Rosen or Peter Mayotte …or doing some budgeting and manage- ment with Lisa August …or litigating with Brian Dan, Mike Karcher, Davis McDonald, Tom Noto, Michael Fryd and Art Lieberman or Mike Guilford … …or hanging out on the boat with Betsy Burnett …or yacking it up with Alice Greenfield, Chris Ryder, Margaret Hoeveler, Chris Moore, Amy Thompson, Deb Turner or David Aronow. …you’ll see that ’76 is all around us. Thank you in advance for tonight. I am humbled at our depth, breadth, intelligence, perceptiveness, humor and intensity, and of our collective ability to do GOOD and to do WELL. I’m impressed with our ability to laugh, talk, attain greatness (or at least attain “very-good- ness”) and to attract great mates. I’m thankful for our time together.
