ZA: Yeah.
BP: Umm…
ZA: I was hanging out in the halls and she was just, like, there.
BP: Yeah, and through mutual friends.
In the middle of our interview, Sean Meagher asks Bailey and
Zach where the rehearsal hall is. They know, which is curious,
since Sean is the performance artist in the group.
KL: Any upperclassmen crushes?
ZA: I don’t know a lot of seniors…
BP: There is no way that I’m answering this question.
KL: Where do you see yourself at the end of your freshman
year?
ZA: With good grades and more friends.
BP: If I maintain a B in all my classes or higher, that’s good
enough for me.
KL: You don’t see yourself doing anything amazing like curing
cancer? No big goals for the year?
BP: No, no. No curing cancer in the near future on my part.
KL: Well, these kind of big dreamers are what make Ransom
Everglades famous.
KL: Hardships of being freshmen?
ZA: Definitely the challenge against upperclassmen.
KL: What do you mean?
ZA: Well, as I said earlier, I’m on the football team and it can
be hard to compete with them.
BP: I don’t find anything to be that different or hard for us.
KL: Outward Bound. What are your thoughts?
ZA: It sounds like it’s going to be fun. It’s cool to have the
opportunity to do this, because other schools, like Gulliver,
don’t do it.
BP: I am so unexcited it’s crazy. If this was optional, I would
not do it; I would run for the hills because I have absolutely
zero interest in living in the wilderness for a week, dehydrated
and hungry, when I have my perfectly good air-conditioned
home right here. I am never going to live in the wild, so why
am I going to do that for a week?
KL: Wow, tell us how you really feel. Just so you know I am
going to quote you on that.
BP: Please do.
KL: What activities and electives do you do?
ZA: I’m taking video production and intermediate Spanish.
I’m doing football this season and I’m planning on trying out
for the basketball team. I’m still unsure of what sport I want
to do in the spring.
BP: I take photography with Mr. Stock and Spanish. I do
soccer outside of school, so I am not doing any sports through
school at the moment, but I’ll do soccer in the winter.
KL: Any embarrassing moments so far?
ZA: No, not yet.
KL: Is this interview your first one?
ZA: I guess so…
BP: I was sitting in the hallway the other day drinking a Diet
Coke, and I kind of subconsciously poured it all over my leg…
KL: It happens to the best of us.
KL: Any hidden talents?
ZA: None that I know of.
BP: I got nothing. Wait – excessive honor and excellence.
KL: Do you have any bad habits?
ZA: Procrastinating.
BP: Same. If I have too much stuff to do, I’m just like, ‘okay,
sleeping time is now,’ and I go to bed.
KL: Any freshmen to watch?
Zach and Bailey then proceeded to tell me an unprintable
story of freshmen that remained nameless.
In concluding this interview I would like to thank Zach Acosta, Bailey
Parker, and Sean Meagher for letting me embarrass them, it was truly
my plan.
Around Campus

Kirby Landon, Junior
Hazing freshmen is a longstanding tradition at high schools
all over America. Of course, here at Ransom Everglades, all
students are equal (...mostly), and tormenting the new members
of the student body is both frowned upon and punishable.
Subjecting them to an awkward and embarrassing interview,
however, is all in good fun. So I took it upon myself, being
the kindhearted and welcoming person I am, to interview two
bright new additions to this campus, Zach Acosta and Bailey
Parker. They gave me the scoop on being new to the Upper
School, their excitement about the impending Outward Bound
trip, and the hardships of freshman year thus far.
Zach Acosta just transferred to Ransom from our rival school
Gulliver – a wise decision. He can usually be found in the
Ludington hallways with his friends or on the football field with
his teammates. Bailey Parker, despite her sarcasm and feigned
apathy, is a kindhearted soul and Starbucks enthusiast. After
school she can usually be found exploring the many treasures
Main Highway has to offer, from Starbucks to Johnny Rockets.
And now, without further adieu, let’s get to know the Ransom
Everglades class of 2016.
Kirby Landon: What do you think of the high school so far?
Zach Acosta: It’s good. There are a lot of people to meet and
I like it.
Bailey Parker: It’s way better than the middle school.
KL: Which brings me to my next question, how does it compare
to the Everglades Campus?
ZA: Well I went to Gulliver for middle school but [Ransom] is
different and I like it a lot.
BP: There’s a lot more freedom here and no one tries to
micromanage you like they do at the middle school.
KL: What is the best/worst thing about the upper school so
far?
ZA: The best thing is that you can do whatever you want and
you have a lot of free periods. The worst thing is – I don’t
know…
KL: You like everything about the high school? Even your
treatment from the older students?
ZA: Okay, maybe the worst thing is how the sophomores and
upperclassmen have priority.
KL: Priority?
ZA: Yeah, I play football and I’m automatically on varsity
because Ransom doesn’t have a JV team so I don’t get as much
playing time as I’d like.
KL: I see. Bailey, how about you?
BP: The best thing is all the free time and the worst thing is...
Kirby picking on me because I’m a freshman.
KL: What?! I am so nice to you!
BP: Whatever.
KL: Zach, you’re a new student here. How did you two meet?
BP: Umm, I don’t know. He’s new.
