USA Men’s Swim team wins gold in the 4x200. Once again
the spotlight is on Michael Phelps as he swims the anchor lap,
solidifying a gold for the team and his personal 19th Olympic
medal. Casually becoming one of the greatest Olympians of all
time. No big deal Michael.
9.
Usain Bolt, arguably the fastest man on earth was pure gold
at the 2012 Olympics. Not only did he individually win gold in
the 100 meter and 200 meter he also led his team to victory in
the 4x100 relay. “I am now a living legend” said Bolt following
the games. You’re forgetting about the 19 medals that Michael
Phelps has hanging on his wall, Usain- nice try.

Finally, a name that was echoed much after the games were
over, Missy Franklin. This seventeen year-old amazed the world
with her four gold medals and one bronze. Winning 2 individual
gold medals the future looks bright for this young athlete along
with the many who showcased their talent and promise at the
London 2012 Olympics.•

After failing to medal in his single event at the Sydney Olympics
in 2000 (yes, he was 15 years old- think any of the freshman boys)
he went on to win 6 golds and 2 bronzes in Athens followed by
8
straight gold medals in Beijing. Finally in these games Phelp’s
ended his spectacular career with 4 gold medals and 2 silvers.

Mexico beats Brazil in a 2-1 Men’s soccer final. Not only
was Mexico the underdog in this match but also they managed
to beat out the cocky Brazil who gets home court advantage in
international soccer for the next 10 years. Go Mexico!
4.
The USA Men’s Basketball team, (to no ones surprise) go
on to defeat Spain in the goal medal basketball game. Kevin
Durant breaks the American Olympic scoring record with
156
points, finally getting his taste of victory? Compare that
to Lebron James tying Michael Jordan for only player to ever
win an NBA Championship, NBA MVP, and an Olympic gold
medal in the same year.
5.
McKayla Maroney winning silver on the vault in Women’s
Gymnastics. The favorite for gold on vault, Maroney
disappointed herself by messing up one of her vaults and
ending up with second place. Silver at the Olympics at age 16?
She was not impressed.
6.
Andy Murray finally wins something- that something is a
gold medal at the Olympics hosted by his country. Congrats
Murray! Déjà vu? Murray played the match on the same
court he lost to Federer on in the Wimbledon final less than a
month prior. A gold medal is better than the Wimbledon prize
money right?

The USA Women’s gymnastics team wins gold in the Team
Final. Known as the Fierce Five or the Fab Five these girls
secured a spot at the top with close to perfect performances
from each of the members on the team. These girls were the
must defeat all the enemies. Enemies come in purple, green,
blue, red, pink, and purple. There is also a survival mode in
which you endure waves of enemy tanks and see how long you
last, and several missions to try and conquer.
Not hard enough for you? Tap the ‘intense’ button on the
main screen for a harder version of the game.
Tank also comes with Apple GameCenter support as well
as Facebook and Twitter integration. Perks of the GameCenter
are unique achievements as well as specific leader boards
for stats such as enemies defeated. There are also local stats
stored. Finally, there is an in-game store from which you
can buy upgrades with in-game currency earned by clearing
levels. With all this, what’s not to love about this game? You

With about a month to go until all of the ballots are in,
the 2012 election is shaping up to be quite interesting. Obama
is approximately two points ahead in the polls, but that is not a
guaranteed victory at all. In fact, it is very likely that whomever
wins will have done so by the skin of their teeth.
As many of you many know, I am a liberal. However, I
am not bound heart and soul to either party and believe that a
point is a point, regardless of who said it. Romney may not be
winning as of now, but there are numerous reasons as to why a
Romney-Ryan win may benefit the American people.
Economics President Obama admits himself that the
economic situation has not improved on a large scale since
he has taken office. Obama has increased taxes, including
Obamacare, and unemployment remains high. The deficit is
growing at a remarkable speed. Do we need another four years
of seeming ineffectiveness?
Foreign Policy While popular with our socialist allies in
Europe, Obama’s relationship with Israel is precarious at best.
In his four years of office, he has not had a single meeting
with the Israeli prime minister, who was recently quoted on
NPR as vastly preferring Romney. Only six percent of Israelis
support the current president. U.S.-Israeli relations are vital to
maintaining an ally in the Middle East and if Israel is attacked
by several Middle Eastern nations, the U.S. may be the only
